Specialist Interests
Áine has a particular professional interest in trauma and EMDR, including understanding how difficult or overwhelming experiences can continue to influence how we feel, relate to others and understand ourselves long after those experiences have passed.
Her areas of particular interest include:
- Trauma and complex trauma
- EMDR therapy
- Childhood adversity and difficult past experiences
- Attachment and relational trauma
- PTSD and trauma-related difficulties
- Shame and self-criticism
- Anxiety linked to past experiences
- Recurring patterns in relationships
A Trauma-Informed Approach
Áine's work is informed by an understanding that our emotional responses and ways of coping often make sense when considered in the context of what we have experienced.
Difficulties such as anxiety, emotional overwhelm, self-criticism, shame or recurring patterns in relationships do not always exist in isolation. They may be connected with earlier experiences, relationships, loss, adversity or ways of coping that developed when they were needed.
Therapy provides an opportunity to understand these patterns with curiosity and compassion, while considering what may help you move forward.
Where appropriate, Áine integrates EMDR within a broader psychological and trauma-informed approach rather than using EMDR as a stand-alone technique.
EMDR Therapy
Áine is an EMDR Europe Accredited Practitioner and is currently progressing through further specialist development as an EMDR Consultant in Training.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based psychological therapy that can help people process traumatic or distressing experiences that continue to affect them in the present.
Áine has a particular interest in using EMDR within psychologically informed therapy for adults experiencing the effects of trauma, childhood adversity, relational trauma and other difficult experiences.

Working With Áine
Áine believes that effective psychological therapy begins with developing a relationship in which you feel listened to, respected and able to explore your experiences without judgement.
Her approach is collaborative. Therapy is not about being told what to think or being given a standard set of techniques. Instead, the work involves developing a shared understanding of what is happening for you and considering what may support meaningful change.
The therapeutic approach is tailored to your individual needs, experiences and goals.
Appointments are provided online, allowing adults throughout Ireland to access specialist psychological therapy without needing to travel to a clinic.
Professional Standards
Professionalism, accountability, confidentiality and trust are central to Áine's work.
As a Chartered Psychologist and registered Practitioner Psychologist, her practice is informed by professional and ethical standards relating to psychological practice, continuing professional development and clinical responsibility.
